Did Adoption Cause Your Family To Go From Two To Huge? 3 Tips To Plan Your Move To A House With Room For Everyone

When it comes to forming a family, you and your partner somehow managed to go from zero to sixty in no time flat. For many adoptive families, it just makes sense to try to keep siblings together, and there's just no way that you could leave a child behind when you have so much love to give at home. Now, however, you do have a minor problem since your family now needs to move to a bigger house, and these tips will get you and your newly adopted family off to a great start.

Discard the Things You No Longer Need

Moving is always a great time to go through your house to purge all of your unwanted or outdated belongings. For example, you may no longer need any baby supplies if all of your kids have passed the toddler stage. Alternatively, you may be ready to ditch the bunk beds if your new house has enough space for each kid to have their own bedroom. As you discard old items, involve the kids so that no one is upset to discover that something they love is gone.

Pack With the New Home's Layout in Mind

When you start to pack, it is easy to make the mistake of labeling items according to the rooms that they are already in. However, moving companies read labels and help take the boxes to the appropriate new rooms. If you have kids who will no longer be sharing a room, then make sure to pack their items in separate boxes so that they can quickly be unloaded to the appropriate space. Older kids can even get in on the fun by using colored markers or tape to designate which boxes belong to them.

Prepare Each Kid a Box to Get Through the First Week

A big family means that you may spend several weeks working through your boxes and setting up each room. In the meantime, your kids will still need to do things such as get dressed, brush their teeth, and have a comfortable place to sleep. Make it easy to stick to your routine by having each child pack a box with the necessities to survive the first week.

Your move to a new home gives you and your newly adopted kids a place that everyone can call their own. While it may be a little hectic for a while, you can all look forward to having more space for everyone to continue to grow. For more moving tips, contact a moving company

About Me

Keeping Your Family Happy On the Road Traveling is hard, especially when you have children. I didn't used to think too much about throwing an overnight bag in the car and taking off, but after we had kids, a lot of things changed. We realized that doing anything new was a challenge, so I began talking with my family about moving cross country. Although it was a lot for my kids to process, they eventually came around to the idea, and it was neat to see the looks on their faces when they realized they could start over in a new place. Find out more about how I moved with my kids on this blog.
